SC 34500 - Ecological Economics(4)
This course examines a transdisciplinary science that attempts to work toward the efficient allocation of resources subject to and mindful of ecological constraints. Unlike traditional neo-classical economics, ecological economics recognizes that the economy is a sub-system wholly contained and sustained by the global ecosystem, and like any subsystem, is dependent on the system that contains it. We will focus on issues at the interface of the human system and the bio physical system that sustains it. We will study three interdependent goals of sustainable scale, fair distribution, and efficient allocation and the economic tools and policies necessary to create a sustainable economy.Prerequisite: BAM 21600 or instructor permission.Offered as needed.
