Business Administration, A.A.

The Associate of Arts (AA) major in Business Administration provides a basic understanding of business principles and prepares the student for entry-level positions in business. This AA is offered completely online and in the evening for the convenience of our adult student population. It is an appropriate option for those students with less than 60 transfer credits who wish to advance to a bachelor’s degree.
 

Students completing the AA degree can apply for admission in to the Bachelor of Arts degree programs in Business Administration and Management, Accounting, or Human Services (check with Admissions or the Registrar’s Office for details regarding readmission to the BA program upon completion of the AA).  Courses completed in the AA can apply to BA degree requirements. 
 

The degree is designed to meet the following Professional Competencies:

  • Theory & Practice (T&P): Attain a foundational knowledge of the theories and practices of business 
  • Functional Integration (FI): Understand the different functional areas of business and be able to articulate how they integrate
  • Written & Oral Communication (WOC): Establish written and oral communication skills for improved performance in the workplace
  • Quantitative Skills (Q): Establish quantitative skills for improved performance in the workplace and as a platform for additional quantitative skills acquisition

As a graduate, the student earns an Associate of Arts degree with demonstrated achievement in APU’s Essential Competencies: Effective Communication; Critical Thinking; Cultural & Historical Perspective; Scientific Inquiry;  and Ethical Engagement.

Foundational Studies (32-36 credits)


  • EC Written Communication** (WRIT 10100) (4)
  • EC Presentation & Media Literacy (from 10000-20000 level COMM) (3-4)
  • CT Critical Thinking (from 10000-20000 level CRIT) (3-4)
  • CT Computation** (MT 10100, BAM 10500, or higher placement) (3-4)
  • CH Intercultural & Spiritual Understandings (from 10000-20000 level RS/CS) (3-4)
  • One of the following: CH Intellectual Traditions -or- CH Creative Endeavors (from 10000-20000 PH, HI, HUM) (4)
  • SI Biological/Physical Scientific Inquiry (from 10000-20000 level SC w/ lab) (4)
  • SI Social/Behavioral Scientific Inquiry (various) (3-4)
