Message from the President

Greetings,

Great educational programs lead to meaningful changes for individuals, families, communities, and for the entire State of Alaska. Education is critical to the health of individuals, communities, and the state. I am privileged to play a role in creating an environment at APU which facilitates great educational programs through place based, personalized, experiential, hands-on instruction in the field with Alaska as its primary classroom.

APU is focused on creating and delivering education that is relevant to workforce needs, emphasizes activities ensuring the economic and social viability of Alaskan communities, and recognizes and honors Indigenous knowledge and culture. This task is only accomplished through continual effort and community involvement in the process.

Engaging students, faculty, staff, and the communities served by APU ensures growth in areas of strengths and collaborative effort to meet our challenges as they arise. An inclusive, community based process will lead to better decision making and increase the likelihood of future success.

I am thankful to those who have given APU input for its future direction and look forward to continued feedback and help. My door is always open, and I look forward to another meaningful year at APU.

Sincerely,

Dr. Bob Onders, M.D., J.D., M.P.A.
