The Associate of Arts (AA) degree in Accounting prepares students for entry level positions in the accounting field. In addition to the general university requirements the AA students must complete courses in bookkeeping, economics, and foundations of business. The degree will be offered on line. The AA degree in Accounting is appropriate for those entering the accounting profession, or those who work in the accounting field but desire to upgrade their skills. It is also an appropriate option for those students with less than 60 transfer credits who wish to obtain a bachelors degree. The associate degree requirements may be applied toward a Bachelor degree. Students completing an Associates of Arts degree who are interested in a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration and Management, Accounting, Human Services, or Health Services Administration may enroll in the Adult Undergraduate Program after completing the requirements for the Associates of Arts degree. Students must reapply and meet admissions standards to be admitted into the Adult Undergraduate Program. In this event, students must also meet the employment requirement and take additional General University courses (GURs) to meet the Bachelor of Arts degree requirements.

The following are the degree competencies for students pursuing an Associate of Arts in Accounting:

  • Theory & Practices: Attain a foundational knowledge of the theories and practices of accounting (T&P)
  • Functional Intergration: Understand the different components of the accounting role in business and be able to articulate how it integrates with other business functions (FI) 
  • Written & Oral Communication: Establish written and oral communication skills for improved performance in the workplace (WOC)
  • Quantitative Skills: Establish quantitative skills for improved performance in the workplace and as a platform for additional quantitative skills acquisition (Q)
