The Alaska Rural Management Certificate provides foundational skills and understanding of management, as well as discussion and consideration of management issues in rural Alaska. The Certificate is designed to provide relevant education for Tribal administrators, utility managers, and municipal managers and to improve access to management education. The Certificate also provides an educational pathway into the Business Administration Associate of Arts degree. 

The Certificate is introduced through foundational studies in business administration, budgeting, entrepreneurship, organizational behavior, and workplace ethics.  The program is distinctive in providing a crucial lens for understanding the complex array of governance systems that shape Alaska Native experiences, organizations, and entities – providing important perspective for rural managers.

Students completing the Certificate can apply for admission in to the AA in Business Administration or any other associate or bachelor’s level degree program (check with Admissions or the Registrar’s Office for details regarding readmission upon completion from the certificate). Courses completed through the Certificate can  apply to associate or bachelor’s level requirements.

• Quantitative Skills (Q): Establish quantitative skills for improved performance in the workplace and as a platform for additional quantitative skills acquisition  [CT, SI, EE]
